Good thing I ignored your adoption advice - a lovely piece by an adoptive mom who met her son when he was 10.

National Adoption Month

It is National Adoption Month, which means great stories and celebrations of families created through adoption, especially adoption of children from foster care.

This Saturday is DC's Adoption Day in Court. 10 AM at DC Superior Court. The one day a year adoptions are done in public. It's a big celebration and a fun day that is open to all.

Family & Youth Initiative will have an information table at Adoption Day and again on December 5 for the Adoption & Foster Care Expo (11 AM to 3 PM at the Carnegie Library). We are looking forward to talking with those who are interested in or maybe just starting to think about adoption.

If you know people who have asked questions or say they hope to adopt or foster some day, please tell them about the Expo. It will be a great opportunity to talk to organizations and learn from adoptive and foster parents.

The last few weeks have also been great for Family & Youth Initiative. Our Establishing Roots fundraiser was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making it so successful!

The 2105-2016 Catalogue for Philanthropy was released in early November. We are honored to be featured as "one of the best small charities in the Greater Washington region."

Last week we learned that we had received grants from both the Share Fund and from the Ober | Kaler law firm.

We are so grateful for this support which will allow us to build on our successes and serve more teens in foster care in the coming year.

Our success is built on the passion and commitment of incredible Family & Youth Initiative volunteers - people who change the lives of teens in foster care and make adoption possible. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish in the year to come,
Susan
