DCFYI Holiday Gift Giving!

Holiday Gift Giving!

What is the Holiday Gift Drive?

Family & Youth Initiative holds an annual holiday party for participating youth, all of whom are or were in foster care. We decorate gingerbread houses, eat, celebrate the season. And we give every young person gifts. For some these are most or all of the gifts they will receive. By participating, you are not only committing to shopping for the items youth have wished for, you are helping to ensure that DCFYI participants have a special holiday!

How much should I expect to spend?

We have a gift cap of $150, meaning we do not include any items that would cost more than $150 and spending for youth who asked for multiple things should be capped at that amount [e.g., they may not get everything on their list]. We have (smaller) wish lists for the children of participating youth who are parents. We are also trying to get every youth a new coat or other winter items (ex., socks, long underwear).

Im interested but that's more than I can spend; can I still participate?

Absolutely. If we know how much you would like to spend, we can split a youth’s wish list between you and someone else or ask you to help with the “filler” items.

I'm in! I'd like to fulfill a wish list. What's next?

Please contact DCFYI Executive Director Susan Punnett with answers to the following questions:

  • Do you have a preference for buying a portion or all of a youth’s wish list - or buy for more than one youth? Or would you prefer buying a winter coat or other items?
  • About how much do you want to spend?
  • Do you have a gender preference for the youth whose gifts you will purchase?

What is the deadline for drop off?

Youth will receive their gifts at our annual Holiday Party on December17th. If you are planning to attend, you can bring the wrapped gifts to the party. If not, we ask that you schedule a time with Susan to drop off at our office no later than Wednesday December 14th.

Thank you!
